An emergency appeal for £1,200
launched just two weeks ago,
has been met and vital pieces of
equipment have now been bought
- before the old stuff collapsed
altogether.
Trudy Burge, hospital radio fundraising
officer, said she was thrilled
with the response, particularly from
the Vale of Evesham Round Table,
the Best of Evesham website and
Marshalls Transport, which gave
considerable donations.
“I’m absolutely over the moon.
I have been so touched by the
response that we have received and
the overwhelming support of our
local community - especially in such
turbulent financial times,” Trudy
told the Observer.
“The CD mixer has really been
playing up and we thought we were
going to have to get a loan to get
new equipment as it was on its
last legs. So we couldn’t believe it
when the donations came in. This
has been an unexpectedly difficult
year which we hope to avoid ever
encountering again.”
The station at Evesham Community
Hospital has been run by volunteers
since 1973. Earlier this year it
was saved at the eleventh hour from
financial ruin after a mix-up with its
broadcasting licence meant it had
to fork out much more than usual.
Fund-raising will continue with a
music quiz in Evesham in the near
future.
